What this boy was doing to me and my business - NoCV

I run a barbing salon, and sometime ago, I decided to employ a young boy to assist me with work. From the very first day he stepped into my shop, everything changed. On a personal level, this boy was humble, respectful, and even treated me like an elder brother. He swept, washed towels, and greeted customers warmly. Honestly, I felt I had finally found someone who would make life easier for me. But professionally, this is where my problem started. The boy was so good that my own customers began to abandon me. Imagine me standing with clippers in my hand, telling a customer to come forward, and the person would boldly say, “No, I will wait for the boy.” Sometimes the boy would not even be in the shop, yet people would sit down for 30 minutes or more, waiting for him to arrive, instead of allowing me to cut their hair immediately. At first, I thought it was funny. But with time, it began to affect me. I started losing confidence. I would stare at myself in the mirror and ask, “Am I not the owner of this shop again?” The humiliation was becoming too much. My self-esteem dropped so low that even when I tried to cut hair, my hands would shake. In the end, even though he was making money for me, I decided to let him go because I felt my mental health was more important. Now, I sometimes wonder if I overreacted or if I did the right thing. What do you think? Should I have kept him despite how it was affecting my confidence?
