One Missed Call - NoCV
I always keep my phone with me. In fact, if you ask anyone in my family, they will tell you that I am the most reachable person. But on this particular day, my phone was charging. I only stepped out quickly to buy egg. By the time I returned, I saw one missed call. It was from my uncle. I called him back immediately, but he told me not to worry, that he had already reached out to my younger brother. I didn’t think much of it until later when I found out that it was a life-changing job opportunity. A very time-sensitive one. The kind of opportunity that only comes once in a lifetime. My uncle had only been given one slot, and seeing as I am the first born, he decided to call me first. But because I did not pick his call, he called my brother instead and handed the slot to him. It has been years now, and that particular job is what transformed my brother’s life. That one opportunity is what has made him what he is today. He is doing so much better than me, his senior brother. I am also working, but honestly, I keep wondering why an opportunity like that had to pass me by. I love my brother dearly, and I am truly happy for him. I thank God for his progress. But still, I am human. I look at him sometimes and know, deep down, that I was the one meant to be there. My current job does not give me the kind of fulfillment his does. Sometimes, when I sit alone, I replay that day in my head, just one missed call changed everything for me. Please don’t misunderstand me. I am not a bad person. But I am also a human being with emotions. The reason I am sharing this is to get advice from people who might have gone through something similar. Maybe you narrowly missed out on a life-changing job or contract. Did something better eventually come your way? And if it didn’t, how did you find fulfillment in your present place of work? Please don’t air me. I really need this. God bless you as you ease my burden by sharing your story.
