Do You Share Plates and Cutlery With Your Househelp? - NoCV
Good day everyone, please I really need your advice on something that has been bothering me. I am about to employ a live-in househelp, but I want to learn from those who already have one. Do you allow your househelp to use the same plates and cutlery that you and your family use, or do you buy hers separately? I know this might sound like a small matter, but honestly, it is not easy to draw the line between being considerate and setting boundaries. Some of my friends told me that in their houses, the househelp has her own plate, cup, and spoon, and she doesn’t touch theirs at all. They believe it is a matter of hygiene and respect. Others said it is unfair and that once someone lives with you, there should not be that kind of separation. Personally, I don’t feel comfortable sharing plates with a househelp, but at the same time, I don’t want it to come across as insulting. Please, what is the polite way of telling her not to use my own plates and cutlery without it sounding like I am looking down on her?
