I work in a government office, and one of our colleagues was lucky enough to get a full government sponsorship to study abroad. She was sent to France for a two-year program so she could come back and train us on modern administrative systems. We were all happy for her, we even threw her a small send-forth party. Now fast forward to her return…Since this woman came back, she no longer knows how to speak English. She speaks only Hausa and she is very fluent at it. The strange thing is, she is not even Hausa and couldn’t speak a single word before she left. Now for her to train us is becoming an issue. We will speak English, she will reply with Hausa. We don't understand her, she doesn't understand us. Please what is going on? Everyone in our office is confused. Is two years enough for someone to completely forget English? Also, if at all she were to speak any language, is it not meant to be French? Or are we missing something?
