My Boss's Rules - NoCV
I genuinely like where I work, and I also like my boss as a person. He is a very nice man, and one thing I truly appreciate about him is that he pays a 13th-month salary. However, my boss has some rules that I find funny, confusing, and sometimes a bit much. For instance, one day he saw me drinking Ribena in the office and told me to stop. According to him, Ribena is for children, not grown adults. Another time, he asked me to change my phone ringtone. I was using a song by my favourite musician, and he insisted I switch it to the default Samsung ringtone. His reason was that my ringtone would not make people take me seriously. As strange as those rules were, the one that was the hardest for me to accept and stop was when he told me not to eat Gala in his office. I honestly thought he was joking at first, but he was serious. He said that when he was in the university, someone used Gala and Lacasera to toast his girlfriend and eventually snatched her from him. Out of curiosity, I jokingly asked why his beef was with Gala and not Lacasera. His response was that he was sure Gala did the damage because the guy bought his girlfriend two Gala, while the Lacasera was just one. Recently, while chatting casually with my roommate, I mentioned these things about my boss. Her reaction shocked me. She said my boss is clearly a controlling man who keeps crossing boundaries. According to her, employers like that are dangerous, and she advised me to start looking for another job as soon as possible. Personally, I don’t see my boss that way at all. To me, he is just someone with strange experiences and funny rules. But now, her words have made me start thinking. Do you think my roommate is right, or am I overthinking something that is not that deep?
